Fool's Chess Lets You Queue With Friends, but Six Players Means No Rank Gains
Lord of Mysteries' final Fool's Chess rules set a six-player party limit on rank gains, match groups by their highest rank and protect beginners from point losses.
Bring a sixth player into a Fool’s Chess party and nobody in that group will gain rank points from the match. The September 17 launch rules for Lord of Mysteries’ eight-player auto-battler allow both solo and group matchmaking, but parties of six or more cannot increase their 胜点, or rank points, at settlement.
That answers a question left open by the early previews. Players can queue together. The six-player cutoff limits which groups can gain points.
The official Y1S1.2 update notes also say that group matchmaking uses the highest-ranked player in the party to select opponents. A beginner joining a more experienced friend’s group should therefore expect opponents matched to that friend’s rank. The announcement does not describe an average-rank calculation.
Six players stop gains, low ranks prevent losses
There are two separate point rules to read before queuing. A party of six or more cannot gain points. A player at Viscount tier 5 (子爵5阶) or below will not lose points when a match ends.
The low-rank protection gives beginners room to try pieces and line-ups without a point deduction. It does not cancel the six-player rule. A protected beginner who joins a large party still cannot earn rank points from that match under the published conditions.
A party of five falls below the stated cutoff. The notes do not publish the full placement-to-points table, so being below the cutoff should not be read as a promise that every result earns points.
Matchmaking opens daily from 10:00 until 02:00 the following morning on the Chinese service’s schedule. For overseas players, those are China times (UTC+8). The notice describes a matchmaking window; it does not say an ongoing match is cancelled when the window closes.

Check the reward event before chasing rank
Fool’s Chess has a reward event called Chess Trials (棋局试炼), running from September 17 through October 15. Players participate in the mode and complete synergy tasks (共鸣任务) to claim rewards. The official list includes Bound Holy Grails (圣杯·绑), Star Coins (星币), Extraordinary Material Chests, Blue Mountain Crystals, Historical Lamps and Golden Thread.
The game account’s version 1.2 reward poster, reproduced above, separately confirms that the mode’s shop offers Bound Holy Grails and Star Coins. It does not show exchange prices or purchase limits. The update notes also do not state whether the six-player restriction changes event-task credit or shop rewards, so check the task counter after a match before using a large party to farm them.
The launch update adds line-up recommendations and an editor (阵容推荐 and 阵容编辑), with support for creating and uploading compositions. The Chess Encyclopedia (棋局图鉴) lets players preview unit skills, talent effects and synergy effects. These are useful places to check what a piece does before committing to a composition copied from another player.
Our original Fool’s Chess preview covers the announced roster and synergies. For the current reward event, open 棋局试炼 and check which 共鸣任务 remain before joining the next match.
