How to Get a Chinese Phone Number for Lord of Mysteries—Legally
What overseas players need to know about getting a real +86 SIM in China, passport registration, SMS login and the game's separate identity check.
Updated August 19, 2026
The short version is simple: a foreign visitor can lawfully get a mainland Chinese +86 mobile number in China with a passport. That number can receive an SMS login code. It does not prove that Lord of Mysteries will accept the same passport for its separate game-account identity check.
If you are outside China, there is no general remote method that this guide can verify as safe and compliant. Do not use an SMS-rental site or buy a SIM registered to another person.
The lawful route for a foreign visitor
China’s official guide for foreign visitors says to take your passport or Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card to an operator service office. The named operators are China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom.
- Go to an operator-owned service office in mainland China. Look for 营业厅, which means “service hall.”
- Take your original passport. A photograph or photocopy may not be enough for the identity check.
- Ask for a mainland mobile SIM that can receive SMS messages.
- Register the number in your own name and with your own passport.
- Confirm the monthly cost, data allowance, expiry rules and international roaming before you pay.
- Insert or activate the SIM, then test an incoming SMS message before you leave.
- Keep the number active if it becomes the recovery number for your game account.
The current government guide also says that some operators support eSIM. Availability and passport support can differ by operator and shop, so ask the operator before you rely on it.

You can show this sentence to the shop staff:

“I want to use my passport to get a Chinese SIM. I need it to receive a game login verification code.”
What the game login may ask for
The official reservation and login interfaces use a +86 phone-number field and an SMS code. These are the common labels:
| Chinese UI | English |
|---|---|
| +86 | Mainland China calling code |
| 请输入手机号 | Enter phone number |
| 获取验证码 | Get verification code |
| 请输入验证码 | Enter verification code |
| 登录 / 注册 | Sign in / Register |
| 用户协议 | User agreement |
| 隐私政策 | Privacy policy |
| 实名认证 | Real-name verification |
| 证件类型 | Document type |
| 身份证 | Mainland resident identity card |
| 护照 | Passport |
| 姓名 | Full name |
| 证件号码 | Document number |
| 提交 | Submit |
Enter your number without the country code if +86 is already shown. Select 获取验证码, wait for the SMS, and enter its code under 请输入验证码.
A +86 number may not be enough
China requires real-name registration for mobile service. Its rules list a foreign passport as an accepted document for a SIM registration. Games can use a separate identity system and can support a narrower set of documents.
For Lord of Mysteries, there is not yet a verified official English statement that the public client accepts foreign passports. If the game shows 证件类型, look for 护照. If it only shows 身份证, do not enter made-up details or another person’s number.
The safe result may be that you can install the China client but cannot complete the account check. A future global client should provide the correct access path for players outside mainland China.
Do not use these shortcuts
- Rented SMS numbers: other users can receive later recovery codes, and the number can be recycled.
- A SIM in another person’s name: the registered owner can control the number and account recovery.
- Purchased game accounts: the seller may recover the account, and the account may fail a later identity check.
- Fake or borrowed identity data: this can break the game’s terms and Chinese real-name rules.
- Unofficial APKs or launchers: these add malware and account-theft risk without solving identity verification.
Use the official China client download guide after you have confirmed that your access method is valid.
