Lord of Mysteries creator Cuttlefish That Loves Diving has left players entering the MMO on August 21 with an appropriate first mystery: go find the Cuttlefish.

The author delivered a launch message in a video posted by verified publisher account Yuewen on August 17. Yuewen also revealed that a Cuttlefish is hidden somewhere on the map. Finding it rewards players with an in-game letter from the author.

A fitting secret for Lord of Mysteries

Yuewen did not reveal the location, activation conditions or any reward beyond the letter. That should give launch players at least one genuine mystery to solve before a guide turns it into a map marker.

An investigation wall filled with notes and clues in Tingen

The author has given launch players a small secret to search for across Tingen.

The Easter egg is official. Its location is not. Any coordinates shared before the public client opens should be treated with suspicion.

The MMO tells a new story in a familiar world

The MMO puts a custom player character into a story that runs beside the novel. It is a difficult assignment. Fans want room to make their own decisions, but they also expect Tingen, its people and the Beyonder system to feel like the books.

Cuttlefish’s message is not an endorsement of every combat, progression or payment system. It is, however, a public welcome from the person whose world the game is borrowing.

The launch remains limited to China

The mainland China version launches August 21 on PC, Android and iOS, with preload starting August 19. Yuewen’s post contains no global release news.

For now, the Cuttlefish hunt is one of the few launch details that is better without a complete answer.
